Unnecessary Use of Articles

যে প্রতিষ্ঠানের যা নিয়মিত কাজ সেখানে সেই কাজে গেলে তার আগে কোন article বসাতে হয় না। যেমন,
ভুল: Do you go to a/the school?
সঠিক: Do you go to school?
ভুল: My son is at the university.
সঠিক: My son is at university.
ভুল: The sick man was admitted to the hospital.
সঠিক: The sick man was admitted to hospital.
ভুল: I am going to a mosque.
সঠিক: I am going to mosque.

N.B. প্রতিষ্ঠানের আগে article বসালে সেখানে যাওয়ার ভিন্ন উদ্দেশ্য বুঝাবে। যেমন,
I went to a hospital in Sydney.

এখানে বুঝানো হয়েছে যে আমি সিডনী শহরের একটি হাসপাতাল দেখতে গিয়েছিলাম, সেখানে রোগী হিসেবে চিকিৎসার জন্য যাইনি । Parliament-এর আগে কখনো the বসে না। যেমন,
ভুল: This matter was discussed in the parliament.
সঠিক: This matter was discussed in Parliament.
কোন নির্দিষ্ট প্রতিষ্ঠান বুঝাতে Proper noun আগে বসলে তার আগে the বসে না, কিন্তু common noun আগে বসলে তার আগে the বসে। যেমন,
ভুল: He reads in the Rajshahi University.
সঠিক: He reads in Rajshahi University.
ভুল: He reads in University of Rajshahi.
সঠিক: He reads in the University of Rajshahi.
ভুল: We visited the London city.
সঠিক: We visited London.
অথবা
We visited the city of London.
ভাষা, সাহিত্য কিংবা অন্য কোন পড়ার বিষয় ইত্যাদির আগে কোন article এর প্রয়োজন হয় না । যেমন,
ভুল: The English is an international language.
সঠিক: English is an international language.
ভুল: He studies the Bangla literature.
সঠিক: He studies Bangla literature.
ভুল: I can speak the Urdu.
সঠিক: I can speak Urdu.
ভুল: He is a student of the chemistry.
সঠিক: He is a student of chemistry.
Uncountable noun indefinite article (a,an) বসতে পারে না। যেমন,
ভুল: Would you have a tea?
সঠিক: Would you have tea?
অথবা
Would you have a cup of tea?
ভুল: He bought a furniture.
সঠিক: He bought a piece of furniture.
ভুল: The man died of a cancer.
সঠিক: The man died of cancer.
ভুল: This is a wonderful cricket.
সঠিক: This is wonderful cricket.
ভুল: We cannot live without an air.
সঠিক: We cannot live without air.
ভুল: She showed a kindness to me.
সঠিক: She showed kindness to me.
ভুল: This is a pure gold.
সঠিক: This is pure gold.
God বা Allah-এর আগে কোন article বসে না ।
ভুল: Let's pray to the Allah/God.
সঠিক: Let's pray to Allah/God.
কোন plural noun যদি definite না হয় তাহলে তার আগে কখনোই definite article ব্যবহার করা যাবে না। যেমন,
ভুল: The birds fly in the sky.
সঠিক: Birds fly in the sky.
ভুল: The poets write poems.
সঠিক: Poets write poems.
ভুল: The critics hoid this opinion about him.
সঠিক: Critics hold this opinion about him.
ভুল: The people say this.
সঠিক: People say this.
ভুল: Everybody loves the flowers.
সঠিক: Everybody loves flowers.
ভুল: The women are weaker than the men.
সঠিক: Women are weaker than men.
ভুল: The books are our best friends.
সঠিক: Books are our best friends.
ভুল: The cats are fond of milk.
সঠিক: Cats are fond of milk.
